The BMW Motorcycles we have chosen for the expedition (1200GS Adventure for me, 800GS for Cory) are great bikes, set up for this type of trip. But we are not heading out on stock bikes. There are lots of things that have to be considered when you're driving around the world.
So far, we've added items from Touratec, Kaoko, VIO, Garmin, Bags-Connection, Caribou, Cycra, Rok, Hepco and Becker, Rugged Roads, Machineart and many others, all to make the bike more rugged, and more reliable.
In addition to the stuff for the bikes, there is a lot of camping and travelling gear we have gotten. Some companies and products we recommend are:
Integral Design (custom sleeping bags)
MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op)
Thermarest
Mountain House Foods
Buck Knives
CKRT Knives
Petzl
The North Face
St. Johns Ambulance (First Aid Kit)
We would like to thank the folks over at ADVRIDER.COM for some great product recommendations, and for a lot of great information.
