Chetumal

37 km from Chetumal…

We did an easy 300 km today, the highway was nice, the weather was perfect, and the bikes are running great.

We've been having some issues with some of our communication gear and GPS equipment…

My GPS hasn't worked for a week or so now, so we we have met up with a friend in Playa Del Carmen who brought down a new GPS cradle from Calgary (Thanks Wellsy - it works!)

Cory's been having all kinds of issues with his Starcom1, which is a device we have that allows us to listen to music, get instructions from our GPS and other things.  We used them on the last trip and he's had nothing but problems with his.

So tonight, the whole thing got ripped out and it's in a bag which he will ship home at the earliest stop.

As we were nearing Chetumal, which is our last city in Mexico before crossing into Belize, we saw a sign for an Eco-zone with Camping.  We've been in a lot of hotels lately, mostly because of security concerns, so we were excited to see a camping sign.

We turned off and headed down a secluded road through the forest canopy, coming out of the trees upon a rustic homestead, we were greeted by a few friendly dogs, and our German host.

He showed us around, then took us down to the lake.  One look at this pristine, clear as glass lake, and we were sold.

Asking the price was secondary, but when he told us it would be $50.00 pesos (a little over $4.00 dollars) for the night, we knew we had found our campsite.

We grabbed our bikes, and rode them right down the hill to the waters edge.  Snapped a couple pictures, and stripped down and dove into the clear blue water.

As the sun faded in the sky, I sat on the dock, looked out over the lake, dipped my toe in and wondered what tomorrow will bring… for I'm not sure it can be better than today.
