Bogota

Leaving our bikes in the hands of the people at Girag Air Cargo, we boarded our flight to Colombia.  The flight is short, only a bit over an hour, and the airport in Bogota is modern and efficient.  We cleared customs without any problems, except for a few questions as to why we had a one way ticket to Colombia.

It was a holiday here on Monday, so we couldn't pick the bikes up for a day.  The taxi ride from the Airport was a crazy mad journey of horn honking, lane changing, and speeding that left us exhausted and stressed by the time we fell out of the cab at the Hostel.

Colombia is a very interesting and appealing city, and at over 8500 feet, is much, much cooler than what we have become accustomed to.  The locals are all wearing sweaters, jackets and long pants.  Scarves and toques are also in abundance.  I was walking around in shorts and a t-shirt, and wasn't melting for the first time in months.   Troy thinks I am nuts, and complained bitterly about the cold at every opportunity.  :)

We've booked into the Crazy Croc Hostel, run by a friendly Aussie.  Like a lot of places here, it's a maze of rooms that lead to other rooms, and hallways and stairs that snake off in all directions.

On Tuesday, we picked up the bikes from the airport, in a not unreasonable amount of time.  Girag was efficient and friendly, and the Customs office was a block away, also very modern and quite efficient.  Troy and I went out last night, leaving Darren back at the Hostel.  We both accidentally forgot our jackets at the club, so we have to go back tonight and try and retrieve them.

Troy met a couple last night from Bogota who came by the hostel today and took us on a walking tour of the area.  The architecture here is very different from what we have seen so far, and very eclectic.  There is a lot of graffiti, some of which is very cool and artistic.

We have a ton of photos's and video, but my camera has crapped out it's USB connection, and I finally bent my card reader pins one to many times… so until I find another card reader, the pictures stay in the camera.

So, pictures to come.

Update:  Went for a walk in the square and found one.  :)

Were doing the "duckface" here.

what interesting pictures! The city looks very old. The graffiti is beautiful. Wish I could paint like that.
