65 days to Go: First Post!

Welcome to www.TERRANOVAEXPEDITION.ca!

65 days to got before we leave on the trip of a lifetime.

Over the coming months, as we get ready for the trip , we will update the site with news and milestones as we get closer and closer to the start date in July.

This will be the first of many blog posts allowing the people following our adventure online to experience some of the thousand planning details it takes to put on a trip of this magnatude.

I'll explain a few things first:

To get the latest updates before the trip starts, check back often here on the main page.

The best place to follow our trip once it's started, will be on the LIVE MAP.

Here's how LIVE MAP works:

As we drive along, our bike mounted GARMIN Zumo 550 GPS will be recording our speed, heading and distances automatically. We will have HD camcorders attached to the Bike, and to our helmets. When we stop, we will be taking still photo's with a Canon 40D Camera.

All the photos and Videos will be digitally transfered at the end of the day to backup hard drives, where they will be cataloged and stored for later editing. During the transfer process, each of the photos gets stamped with the GPS co-ordinates where it was taken, and a portion of them will be uploaded when we have internet access to the LIVE MAP.

So you will be able to follow our route (blue on the map is the planned route, red is the actual GPS track we take). The pictures we take, will be available right on the LIVE MAP, so will be able to see exactly where the photo was taken.

So, for all our friends, family, and people who are following the trip on the web...

Please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of any Update entry.

Welcome to the TERRANOVA Expedition 2009. We can hardly wait to get started.

  1. Also we will be carrying SPOT Messengers which will update our location in real time. You can track our progress through-out the trip even when we are unable to find internet access!
