Baja Ferry

After 14 days in La Paz and Cabo, it was time to move on.

The bike was fixed and we were more than ready to continue on our way.  We were told to be at the terminal 2 hours before it sailed so we packed up our camp at about 5:00 pm, and made our way to the Ferry.

Once we arrived, we were immediately reminded of our multiple times going through Russian Customs.  We showed our passports.  Then our tourist cards.  Then our bike documentation.  This got us a new document that we took over to the ticket window to actually purchase tickets for the Ferry.

At least that was the plan.

We arrived at the kiosk, there were only 2 guys ahead of us.   We thought we would be on our way in a couple minutes.  Nope.  The first guys in line took 25 minutes to get their tickets.  The next guy, at least 15.  By the time it was our turn, we were sweating in the heat, and unsure if we would have enough time to make the ferry.

Good thing everything is behind schedule in Mexico.  The Ferry didn't leave on time.  It left 3 hours late.

So we ended up having enough time after all.

After finally getting our tickets, we were ushered to another line to await a pace car that would escort us to the actual ferry.

We had been on a big ferry before, that one that took us from South Korea to Vladivostok, but it was a little boat compared to the ferry we were riding towards now.

They must have put 50 18 wheeler tractor trailers in the main hold.  Our little bikes were nothing, and we didn't even get a parking spot.  We just parked them off to the side and grabbed our stuff.  We'd booked a cabin, which was nice, with a shower.   :)

Cory and I watched this Spanish language channel for an hour or so.

P.S.  We were leaving La Paz on the night that the Baja 1000 was finishing, about 2 km from our camp. We SO wanted to stick around to see the race, but if we did, we would have missed the ferry and been stuck in La Paz for another 3 days.  So, reluctantly, we rode by the finish line, snaped a quick picture and continued on...

2010 Baja 1000 Finish line.
