Stuck in Paradise...

We're stuck in La Paz for up to a week, if being stuck on the beach in Mexico can be called "stuck" :)

My clutch it shot.  We are airing in parts from all over the west coast... Race clutch from our friends at Touratech, bunch of other clutch parts (flywheel, bolts, seals etc) from San Diego BMW, tires from San Jose etc. etc. etc.

It's all going to a fellow adventure rider from San Diego, who is going to take time out from his day to go round everything up, and then take the whole shipment and drive across the border to Tijuana, where he will drop it off at the bus depot, and it will continue it's way to us.

Once the parts arrive, we will literally split my bike in two (seriously) taking it right apart to replace the clutch, and the leaking rear seal on my final drive, all with my little toolkit of hand tools.  :)

We have made some tentative arrangements to have a work area set aside for us by the nice people who run the campground we are staying at.

Right now, getting this done has involved the co-ordination and co-operation from at least 3 people who we have never met, and only know from the internet.  We are surrounded by grace.

  1. Cory - we just might catch up to you. We're crossing at Tecate on Friday, heading down the Baja, will probably be in Cabo & La Paz middle of next week. Anything we can help with?

  2. Sorry to hear about the bad luck but it's all part of the adventure, right?

If you're going to be stuck, paradise would be the right place :)

    How's the spanish coming along?

  6. Hey guys, nice wipe out Tim. I envy your recent camp sites, wish we could be there. Cale is Starting to walk now, he communicates with sign rather effectively also. KR is finally starting to look Pregnant... it only took 4 months. Its nice to see the hula girl is still standing up. You should be used to fixing your cr*p on the trail. This is no different I'm sure. Great Pics so far.

  7. Geoff, we hope to have everything wrapped up and be on the ferry to the mainland either Sunday evening or Tuesday evening (sails every 2 days). I can send you the campground directions and when you come La Paz you can stop by. I don't think we need anything (else) though.

Z and K, congrats on the walking and signing as well as the one on the way! The camping definitely doesn't suck ; ) Fixing the bike will be a bit of a challenge as it requires splitting the bike in half which is no big deal in the garage but a bit of a PITA in a camp ground with really basic tools.

Theresa, yeah it is all part of the trip. If everything went smooth it would be boring! Not a ton of Spanish yet. We hope to take some lessons soon. Traveling with a bunch of english speakers doesn't force you learn a new language!

Casey, yeah there are worse places to be "stuck"! 30-40C during the day and 15-20 at night. Not many senoritas yet...we need to work on that!

Lisa, we keep running to people we've met previously or from Calgary or know by reputation so meeting up with Geoff here isn't a stretch!

Mom and Dad Dzaman, it will be a handful fixing the bike but we're not anticipating any real issues!
