Planning a trip of this magnitude is daunting. The world is huge.
Luckily, we are doing this trip in the time of Google Earth and Google Maps... online resources that could only be dreamed about even 5-10 years ago.
So the planning process has involved many hours pouring over Google Earth, trying to find various routes through countries that people don't generally travel through on motorcycles.
Mongolia for example, has very few roads. Most of them are just dirt tracks. The amount of road construction in the far east means that even trip reports from a few years ago might not be accurate.
If you go to the Live Map, it is being continually updated with an ever more accurate planned route. Most of the Far East of Russia and Mongolia are done, I'm now starting Kazakhstan...
