The road we are on runs straight through the middle of the Western part of Austria, and when they build a road here, they don't fool around. We went through a succession of tunnels that got longer and longer, with the longest being 13.5 km long, right through the mountains. When you come out of the end, you are treated to some of the most spectacular scenery we have had on the trip.
The mountains here are truly beautiful.
We had a late night last night, helping some nice girls celebrate their staggette till 4:30 am, so we got a late (very) start today, and only did about 150 km. I got my third ticket of the trip, failing to slow down from 100-80-60 at the proper interval (I was doing 95 km/h at the 80 km/h sign) and passing someone while doing it. Once they had me pulled over, we were informed that in Austria, you require a Toll Sticker for your vehicle, which you can get at any gas station. We didn't know this. So I had to pay the Toll sticker fine, along with the speeding fine, and the passing in the no speeding zone... €25 plus €35 plus €65. €130 total. Cory got off with a warning and was told to buy the sticker at the next gas station, which he did.
We camped that night in the Alps.

Hi uncle Tim,
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog and it looks like a pretty cool trip. How is your bike running after you got it tuned up. Chernobyl was the one of the most interesting places you have bin to me.

Ashton,
ReplyDeleteThe bike is running much better now. It needs to be adjusted every 10,000 km and it had been 18,000 km since I had it done (when we left). So it's much better now. We put new tires on, and new brake pads as well, so now I can stop, and it doesn;t vibrate as much.
Say hi to your Mom for me, and to Morgan too...
Uncle Tim.
