Day 79-81 France

We entered France, after spending the morning riding out of Austria, about 15 minutes riding through Liechtenstein, and then through Switzerland. We would have loved to spend a month in each country, as they are some of the most beautiful regions we have ridden through so far, but winter is fast approaching, and we need to keep moving.

We made our way to Dijon, to visit Suze, a good friend of mine, who has lived in France for the last 4 years.

Suze, from the balcony of her apartment in France.

It was so nice to see Suze and her boyfriend David (who I have met before several times), after 80 some days without seeing a friendly face.

Suze and David

We went for supper in the town square in Dijon It's now full of wonderful outdoor restaurants, but it used to be the place they hung people.

We met up aqain with them the next day, and shared a wonderful walking tour of Dijon, and were treated to some tasty Baguettes and Croissant.

I would soon weigh 400 lbs if I lived in France.

This is THE mustard store. It's full of mustard. I never knew there was that many types of Mustard.

David and Suze accompanied us for a bit on our journey north on David's Harley. It was nice to ride with them as we took to the wonderful curvy back roads of France, instead of the main, straight highways. We rode through picturesque villages and fields, past tractors and combines, and saw more cows than we have since Russia.

We continued for a couple hundred kilometers after we left Suze and David on the back roads. Sadly, we finally had to end up back on the main highway, where we went back to dodging trucks and turned our bikes toward Luxembourg, Beigium and our final destination in Europe... Amsterdam.

  3. Mom,

We can't get a flight out of Amsterdam in time, so we have driven 500 km today and are in Heidelberg, Germany at a Motorcycle place that specializes in shipping Bikes around the world. We will spend tomorrow crating the bikes up, and then they will be trucked to Frankfurt (we are about 100km from there now), and we will be flying out of Frankfurt for Orlando, Florida tomorrow. The bikes should (hopefully) arrive Orlando on Thursday or Friday, and then we are taking off for California. See blog update for more info.
