Cory and I have been discussing various routes we could take once we got back to North America, and we have, in the last month or so settled on one.
We knew going into this trip that we would be running really late in the season, and would likely not be able to drive back across Canada. We even discussed leaving the bikes in Europe, if we were too late, and not doing the North American section of the trip.
But, after making it through Russia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, we both realized that we needed to finish this journey by riding/carrying/dragging the bikes back to Calgary.
So, with the days ticking away, and us taking the scenic route, we've run into the end of Summer, and it's getting colder.
So, we decided a while ago to adjust our North American landing point south, to Florida, and from there we will ride across the bottom part of the US to California.
From California, we will ride up the coast, to Vancouver, which would complete our journey around the world... plus a little bit.
We have a friend meeting us in Vancouver with a truck and trailer, and will ride as much as we can back to Calgary. The Rogers pass and any areas with snow, we will load the bikes into the trailer.
We REALLY hope to be able to ride the bikes into Calgary and finish in the same park where we started some 115 plus days ago, but either way, the bikes and us will be back in Calgary, sometime around the first week of November.

ReplyDeleteWhen you guys get to Florida you may want to use some secondary hiways instead of I-10. I-10 goes from Florida to California but is EXTREMELY BUSY with tractor/trailer units 24 hours a day. There are lots of smaller roads that are far less busy. Just a thought.
