Day 112 and 113: California Highway 1

We spent a couple days leisurely riding up California via Hwy 1.  It's a bikers paradise of twisty turns and beautiful scenery.

We've ran into some unbelievable fog at night, that just rolled in out of nowhere, and we had to quickly find a camp, since we couldn't see much, and it got much colder.  We have been camping a lot in the last couple weeks (aside from Vegas), which has been very nice.  It's much colder now at night, with a couple being below freezing.  But we have good equipment, tents and sleeping bags, so we're very warm.  I am starting to think I may have trouble adjusting back to sleeping in my house, after 4 months in hotels and my tent.

It's becoming a common thing in the morning now to try and guess how warm or cold it's going to be that day.  We either gear up fully with thermal underwear, and all the inserts in our jackets, or just the basics, with all the liners out.  After about 20 minutes on the road, we know if we have guessed right or not.  It's no fun riding in full gear when it's 25 degrees out.  And it's also no fun riding in our shells when it drops below 10 degrees.  The weather now can change now in a day by up to 15 degrees, and it makes it challenging for us.

Once we got to northern California, we entered the land of the giant Redwoods.  It is a truly amazing and magical to be riding amongst these giant trees.  Some are over 2000 years old, with the largest being upwards of 300 feet tall, and up to 25 feet across.
